PORTALEGRE BAPTISM - Geraldo !!!

THIS FAMILY IS NOW COMPLETE!!
All baptized...
Delcio, Geraldo, Florabella
and granddaughter (their other son's child)
Elder Bascom and Elder Bishop
at the chapel before the baptism
Small in stature but large in spirit!!!
Whoa!!!  It's cold in here, :)
Geraldo doesn't seem to notice...
But he was afraid of the water;
hence, Elder Bascom was also in the water with him,
just in case,
along with his son, Delcio, who did the baptism.
A great day...
So happy... Geraldo is a great man!!!
A privilege to witness his baptism.
Elder Bascom and Elder Bishop
Awesome missionaries...
This area only has about 8-10 members,
but it doesn't slow these 2 down :)
hmmm...wonder if he's related to John & Elaine??!?

P-DAY ... TENNIS!!!

What a crazy day!!!
The Elders wanted to play tennis for P-Day...
easy enough, right??!?
Not!!!  ...first, we shopped for racquets,
then finally found tennis courts
with someone to let us on the courts (in Almareim)
--only to learn we could only use the court for 1 hour...

And to top it all off ??!?
the Elders had a conference call...
YEP, YOU'RE RIGHT,
It lasted the whole hour we had reserved the court!!!
So, Elder Crossman showed off some of his old tennis moves
to the sisters, who had never really played tennis!!!
Now ,... what are we supposed to do???
...and Sister Juilfs looked more like a softball player!
 LOL!!!  So fun!!!
With a little teaching, they got to where they
could hit the ball...

...some of the time, that is!!

...and then the Elders showed up
with about 5 minutes to play... a little disappointing at best,
but they were great sports about it !!!

MISSIONARIES IN ACTION - May 2014

One day while waiting in the car, I caught
these 2 missionaries in action with my camera
talking to a lady on the street in a
neighboring city...Almareim.
Trying to find an address.
Elder Later and Elder DeOliveira

In Santarem we did some street
displays and contacting a few times...
Sister Shumway and Sister Juilfs
Trying to get the display to stay upright on this breezy day!
Getting the word out...
Elder Singer
Branch members participated...
our branch mission leader, Pedro!
...a member talking with a typical Portuguese gentleman.
The men all wear these cute hats here.
Elder De Oliveira
(this one's for his family...I hope they see it in Brazil :)...)
What makes you think he's posing for the camera, LOL!!!
Trying to be discrete when taking photos
is no small task...
Looks like Elder Crossman's head got in the way!!
Our cute sisters...
Getting an ear full from some guy :). !!!

TRANSFER DAY - 4/14/2014 - 10 a.m.

Saying goodbye to Sister Lybbert...such a great missionary!!!
We will miss her.

Photo bomber in the background...LOL!
Love Sister Shumway... so much fun!

Excited for new people to meet and experiences in her new city...
final wave goodbye ...

...and she was gone!!!

We had about an hour or so to wait for our new Sister's arrival
(or so we thought)...
Looking, looking....
...hmmm, no sister on that train!

Found out it would be another couple of hours until
the next train from her old area,
and, since it was P-day, we took
Sister Shumway for a little fun at Portas do Sol
(an old castle wall in Santarem with a park)

A fun break from missionary work.

Back at the Train Station, again... only to find out
we still had another hour or more to wait?
These 2 were getting bored ... LOL!!!
Watch out...the water fountain really put out the water!!!
Trying not to worry and studying Portuguese...
Enjoying the beauty of this arbor and wisteria...

Posing for the camera...
...and after about 4 hours,
finally, she arrived, tired, but safe and sound!
SISTER JUILFS
(pronounced like "gulfs with a "J" in front)
A happy greeting!!!

RANDOM SANTAREM MISSIONARY PHOTOS

These are just random fun things
I caught the missionaries doing...
Sister Lybbert filling in for the chorister
(last minute, of course, :)...)

Ernesto Nuno birthday party...
(the guy in the blue shirt)

We stopped in to surprise him, but
the surprise was on us!
We interrupted a family dinner.
They were very gracious,
added a few more plates to the table,
and we had a great time!!
Elder C., Filipe, Elders de Oliveira & Later

The sisters stopped in to warm up one evening...
Reminded me of Becca always sitting on the heater.

Trying to figure out if the dress would fit
a lady getting baptized...

He made this "tart" for me...
Tasted good, but the crust was about 2/3 of it
and the chocolate 1/3...just a little dry, LOL!
He was a great sport... we just laughed
and ate it anyway :)

Someone from home....
Sister King from Herriman, Utah
(A sister training leader coming to
train the sister missionaries.)
She went to Riverton High...YAY!!
was a senior class officer and worked with Curtis :)...

He keeps me laughing...
He did lose his glasses, but I told
him he could not wear these.

Do you call this dessert... a bowl of ice water?!?
Elder Later was so disappointed, LOL!!

We found out it was to cool his fried bananas...
you dip them in it.
Can you say, "soggy"???!
